Step 1: make a rough picture on paper first
Take a paper napkin and let your thoughts flow on them. Make a good design and an even better layout. Of course you cannot technically check the concept on paper but at least you will have the first layout of your website design. Also you can chalk in the website content on over the page.
Make sure you work on both the top level and front framework first. That is of course for placing your sidebars and footers etc. A typical website design company works in the same fashion.
Step 2: Place in the grid on your PSD
Without a grid you cannot make a website. Without it your website will not look good, so also plan this before using photo shop. All the margin and spacing issues will also go away.
Step 3: select typography
What text font you select or colour you choose can make a huge difference. Hence be sure about it. If there are huge amounts of text, then go for soothing things. While at it, make sure to select the colour theme also. Do not overload it at all! Think about websites like Google and Facebook, their colours are minimum and soothing.
Step 4: make division of the layout
Your web design should be simple and the structure of the website should be easy to use and navigate. Each section should be made appropriately and it should highlight what it needs to. Also add things that you need to add, put nothing extra as it can confuse users.
Step 5: make sure to put in a search button
We generally do not need the search button; however we should still put it in to improvise the whole concept.
Step 6: make it challenging
Anyone can make a good website, but trying making a great one. You have to think out of the box for it and you have set the bar higher. Put in new innovations, grids and design patterns. You can also use the expertise from any of companies doing best web design services in India.
Step 7: be meticulous
Be pernickety about what you make and leave no stone unturned. Also make sure your design can inspire people and make the work immaculate. Avoid blurry pixels by putting in the right contrast and colours. Tidy up the edges too.
Step 8: make your PSDs perfect.
When you are on photo shop you have to take care of it. In fact, along with the grid, this is also quite important. If you manage to keep your files green or clean, then you can put in extra emphasis with others too with knowledge transfer.
Step 9: hoping for the best, preparing for the worst
Your design can really work differently on different platforms. As a designer, you need accommodate issues like people can use the site at very small or big devices. Hence you will have to plan and execute as per.
Step 10: keep working hard
Keep working hard even if you fail, as your design should see the light of the day. When you make a good design work, you will feel happy about it. But you have to keep your tenacity intact whilst doing it, as it can test you a lot.
Step 11: make sure you and client are on the same page
It always better to show the first draft to your client and then wait for his approval. If he or she likes it then go forward with your idea. But if the client does not like the 1st draft, make a new one. That’s because if they do not like it at first, they will not approve later on.
Step 12: the designer
Always make sure that your developer in involved right from the start. Do not discredit their work a bit and allow them some creative freedom. Both you and he/she can make your idea even better.
Step 13: make simple presentations
Make it simple, clear and to the point. Make sure you cover all bases in it.
Step 14: not all your ideas are good
You can’t be right all the time, hence give yourself the time to rethink. It is possible that you may like an idea but others may hate it. But here you may have to compromise.
Step 15: keep checking
Your work is not done as soon as your idea is approved. It actually starts when the styles and the PSD is done. Keep tab on the project so that quality is delivered. Also, keep tab on what’s going on in the overall project. For example what designs are being used and what are not liked, it’s all in the game.
